PENFIELD FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2011

London, UK (November 2010): Penfield – the classic outdoor apparel brand established in 1975 – kicks off a return to warm weather with a wide-ranging, versatile Spring / Summer 2011 collection of men’s and women’s outerwear and apparel “for life in the open”. Equal parts style and function, this collection continues to take inspiration from Penfield’s Massachusetts roots for a comprehensive selection of jackets, shirting, shorts, pants and accessories made to wear from the first days of spring through the last days of summer.

Both Penfield Trailwear and Classic collections return with such familiar favourites as the Gibson, Lockwood and Vassan 2 Tone jackets, alongside some new silhouettes like the Barnstable and Walpole, all featuring Penfield’s own wind-resistant and water-repellent Hudson Wax Cloth. This season also sees the introduction of a new Lightweight Hudson Wax Cloth. Perfect for a milder climate, the nylon / cotton blend with wax impregnation wicks moisture away from the body in a lighter fabrication than Penfield’s original Hudson Wax Cloth. Colour is key, and vibrancy works alongside more subdued pastel hues, with colorways ‘Heritage Blue’ and ‘Burnt Orange’ acting as highlights throughout.

When it’s warm enough to shed your coat, Penfield offers a vast array of lightweight tops and bottoms this season. In addition to enduring styles in plaid and chambray, shirts with contrasting fabrics and unexpected details add a twist to otherwise traditional pieces. The vintage garment washing of the Sherborn, the patchwork oxford Bellingham, and raglan sleeves on the Watertown are inspired by classic Cape Cod casualwear from the 50’s and 70’s. Tie-dyed accents, shaped collars and a full range of polo shirts round out the collection. Shorts pick up on many of the same cues as the shirting, with the Grafton style alone available in twill, patchwork, tie-dye and oxford. The practical, stylish Selford 6-pocket cargo short with contrast lining is meant to be worn with any number of shirts from the Spring /Summer 2011 collection.

Not to be outdone, Penfield’s Women’s collection for Spring / Summer 2011 offers a comprehensive array of timeless Penfield Classic and Trailwear silhouettes – including the Anoka overcoat and Walpole field jacket. The women’s range is complemented by the Anzak shirt, a favourite from the men’s collection, as well as Penfield’s trademark hardwearing unisex bags.
